New World Screwworm awareness (to date there have been NO cases reported in the United States)
Please be aware that New World Screwworm detections are moving north from Central America. Many detections have been made in Mexico (mostly cattle and dogs) and the US southern border has been closed to most animal movements, or requirements for entry have been raised. Please familiarize yourself with the disease, as we might have detections in our country in the coming months or years. Like most diseases, early detection, containment, and eradication is key. Trich testing available at both MDA labs
Recently, we have reinstituted Trich PCR testing at our Jefferson City lab- Trich pouches only. PBS testing coming soon.
Our Springfield lab can test samples in pouches and PBS.
Call the labs for more information.
Shipping to MDA labs
Our labs repeatedly get samples delivered late, and reports from clinics that samples sent were not delivered when sent via the US Postal Service. Our best advice is to have them delivered by UPS or FedEx at this time. Shipping addresses are:

Exhibition CVIs
Please remember that CVIs are required for exhibition in 2025 for cattle, swine, sheep and goats. Also, official ID is needed. Multiple destinations can be included on a single CVI if within 30 days and for shows within MO. Most electronic versions only allow a single entry in the destination spot, but additional destinations may be added in the comments or notes section. Specifically to VET-CVI additional destinations can be added under the Disease Certification Statements: Custom Statements.
Also, if events are providing onsite inspection by veterinarians, the CVI requirement can be waived- even for sheep and goats. We require such events to notify us at animal.health@mda.mo.gov at least 30 days in advance, and exhibitors should also be notified timely.
