Who is Richard Meadows personally?
- Married to a veterinary classmate for nearly 40 years
- Has two daughters and five grandchildren – Thankfully all living in Missouri
- Has been riding motorcycles since he was about 11 years old
- Likes to travel
Who is Dr. Richard Meadows Professionally?
- Literally grew up in a mixed animal veterinary clinic in the panhandle of Texas
- Graduated from veterinary school 43 yrs ago (1981) – DVM
- Has worked in a dairy practice, done relief work and then owned a small animal practice for 10 years in Waco, Texas
- Became a Board Certified Veterinary Specialist in 1990 in the area of Canine and Feline Practice
- Completed a residency in Clinical Pathology and an NIH sponsored Post-Doctoral fellowship in Inflammatory Pathology in a human medical/dental school (1991-96)
- For over 20 years (1999-2023) he was the leader for small animal Primary Care, Dentistry, Dermatology and Shelter Medicine sections at the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He was also a member of the Hospital Advisory Board for over 20 years.
- Has taught veterinary dentistry to veterinary students and graduate veterinarians since 1999
- Has practiced referral level veterinary dentistry at the MU CVM since 1999
- Has lectured many times locally, nationally and internationally to graduate veterinarians
- Is NOT Board Certified in Veterinary Dentist by the American College of Veterinary Dentistry
- Transitioned to part time in 2023 and retired from the MU College of Veterinary Medicine at the end of August, 2024
Honors
- He is the only person in the MU College of Veterinary Medicine to be named a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor (2011- 2024). Now Emeritus
- Named Companion Animal Practitioner of the year by the American Veterinary Medical Association in 2006
- Named National Veterinary School Teacher of the year in 2010 by the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges
- Was given 17 teaching awards in his time at MU including one by the Governor of the state of Missouri
- Was given a Life Time Achievement Award for Advancing Small Animal Dentistry by the President of the International Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry in 2023
- Has been the Chair of the Veterinary Dental Educators group for 15 years now
- Is an honorary lifetime member of the MVMA and on the MVMA Honor roll

The presentation will detail an overview of the updated 2019 ACVIM Congestive Heart Failure
Guidelines, and management of Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease in Dogs. Additionally, the session will cover diagnostics, treatment, and monitoring for these conditions.
